Duties

  • You will work with supervisors and subject-matter experts to plan, coordinate, install, and continuously analyze system design, hardware and software.
  • You will perform monitoring, performance tuning, backup, and recovery of systems.
  • You will provide systems administration services including but not limited to adding, deleting, and modifying accounts, and access to systems.
  • You will work with supervisors, IT Specialists, and Information Assurance personnel on all IT matters pertaining to planning, programming, developing, modifying, and complying with IT systems policies and procedures.
  • You will ensure the rigorous application of information security/information assurance policies, principles, and practices in the delivery of network services.
  • You will provide input drafting information systems security documentation (e.g., systems security plans, risk assessments, disaster recovery plans, continuity of operations plans, and security guides.
  • You will serve as a focal point for ensuring functionality and operability of the assigned IT/communications system environment, and initiates corrective or preventative measures to rectify immediate problems and prevent future occurrences.
  • You will provide proactive consultation and instruction with system users to ensure seamless implementation of changes and assess the security of installed systems.
  • You will develop, review and maintain systems documentation, including security policies and procedures, hardware, software, and network diagrams.
  • You will maintain network configuration documentation including schematic diagrams with layout and location of all components.
  • You will provide customer technical assistance and support for all users, and ongoing technical support to customers to ensure proper functional use of equipment and programs to preclude undue interruptions to IT and communications services.
  • You will coordinate efforts between system customers, system support personnel, and commercial vendors to identify and resolve hardware, software, and other system anomalies.
  • You will record problem reports as they occur and analyzes dat to determine trends in use or performance that could lead to future problems.

Qualifications

Applicants must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:
<br />1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Examples of experience demonstrating this competency include: 
<b>Analyzing existing technology, formulating or modifying plans to enhance functional users' IT/communications status.</b>
<br />2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Experience demonstrating this competency include:

<br />In addition to my experience demonstrating the four competencies above, I have qualifying experience such as: 
<br /><b>-Experience identifying communication system integration methods, performance tuning methods, and IT security principles and methods to assist planning and coordinating the installation of new products or equipment.</b>
<br /><ul>
 <li><b>Experience performing security patches and upgrades, and identifying violations and recommending corrective action.</b></li>
 <li><b>Experience troubleshooting and diagnosing system failures to isolate the source of issues and correct problems related to system components including hardware, systems software and application programs.</b></li>
 <li><b>Experience reviewing, analyzing and resolving difficult and complex technical problems involving systems compatibility, both installation-wide and external interoperability, circuits, switches and networking.</b></li>
</ul>

Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks, OR
Three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience. My percentage of the required education plus my percentage of the required experience equal one hundred percent.
